This Thursday, Nov. 5, recruiters representing over 30 local, provincial and national companies and organizations will gather at UBC Okanagan in search of the best and brightest students and young alumni.
Taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the UBC Okanagan gymnasium, Career Fair 2009 offers students the opportunity to connect with people who are actively looking to hire UBC Okanagan students and grads, says Shawn Swallow, associate director of Career Services and Co-op Education Centre.
“We have exhibitors from almost every field — from banking and government to engineering, healthcare, education and more,” says Swallow. “The job market may not be as hot as in previous years but the employers attending this event get it — they know the job market will improve and university students are in demand; they want to maintain a presence on campus and attract the best candidates.
“This is a great opportunity for students and young alumni to reach a captive audience of employers and explore different career options in a welcoming environment.”
Some of the exhibitors expected on Thursday include Career Fair sponsor Valley First Credit Union, B.C. Assessment, Peter Kiewit Sons, Institute of Chartered Accountants, and the Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia.
UBC Okanagan students will have additional opportunities to connect with employers in January when Career Services hosts the Business Expo and Summer Job Fair on January 27 and 28.
