Breakfast fund-raiser kicks off campus United Way campaign 2010

Okanagan campus United Way committee members, from left, Teresa Steeves, Sharon McCoubrey (2010 Campaign Chair), DVC and Principal Doug Owram, Gwen Zilm, Louise Nelson, and George Athans, raised the campaign banner on Sept. 30.

More than 400 brown-bag breakfasts were sold on September 30 as UBC’s Okanagan campus United Way campaign kicked into high gear. The Walk-Thru Breakfast raised nearly $1,800 and featured LCD televisions and an iPod as prizes courtesy of IT, Media and Classroom Services.

“We appreciate the great support of ITServices, all those who did baking, staffed the stations across campus, and everyone who contributed,” says Sharon McCoubrey, Campaign Chair, noting that one of the best ways to give back to the greater community that supports our university so generously is by getting behind the annual United Way campaign.

This year’s fund-raising target is $50,000. Last year’s campaign surpassed its goal of $45,000, and the organizing committee hopes to beat the official target again this year.
