What’s after WebCT Vista? Hands-On Product Evaluations underway

February 12, 2011

The Learning Technology Advisory Council is working on the selection of a new Learning Management System — a project that will significantly shape the future of UBC’s learning environments.

The current system, WebCT Vista, is used in more than 4,000 course sections, and by over 53,000 students.

The Vista product line is being phased out in 2013 and UBC is currently undergoing a process to choose our new system.

All interested members of the UBC teaching and learning community are invited to participate in the process, starting with a hands-on evaluation for the two shortlisted products: Blackboard Learn 9.1 and Moodle 2.0.

Hands-On Product Evaluations: February 11 to 24

Exemplary courses will be provided for exploration and participants can choose to create personalized content and learning environment based on specific teaching needs.

Drop-in times will be held in the Arts building, room ART180. Drop-in session date include:

  • Monday, Feb. 14, 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Friday, Feb. 18, 9 a.m. to 12 noon
  • Tuesday, Feb. 22, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 24, 9 a.m. to 12 noon

Feedback and comments are a vital component of this process and will become part of the data for choosing the next generation learning environment at UBC.

For those unable to participate during the drop-in sessions, contact the eLearning staff at the Centre for Teaching and Learning to arrange an alternate time.
