The newest issue of Lake: A Journal of Arts and Environment will be launched at the Kelowna Art Gallery on Tuesday, May 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

This latest issue is an inspiring joint initiative between the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health and Lake: A Journal for Arts and Environment, a periodical published out of the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus. The theme of the issue is Indigenous Peoples, Health, and Place.

The featured contributors in this issue include emerging artists and writers as well as nationally renowned talents such as Warren Cariou, Jeff Thomas and Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, whose vivid Haida manga illustration provides the cover art.

“We hope the work in this issue will affect readers the way it has affected us,” says editor Nancy Holmes. “It was a deeply moving experience to engage with the vital exploration of health, spirit and land that Indigenous artists are committed to across this country.”

The event is a wine and cheese reception. It’s free admission and all are welcome to attend. The launch is sponsored by the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health and UBC’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies.

The event will feature guest editors Sarah de Leeuw and Margo Greenwood, local Okanagan poet Nikki Marchand, as well as music by Krystal Lezard.

Details about the journal can be found at: http://www.lakejournal.ca/.
