The School of Engineering has a new microelectromechanical systems (MEMs) facility to build “lab on a chip” technology and new Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) facility. The Charles Fipke Foundation gave $500,000 to cover the cost of the SEM, and Western Economic Diversification (WED) Canada contributed $1.35 million to support its operational requirements, as well as build the MEMs fabrication facilities. The school is signing up industry partners for joint commercialization projects.
