Globally acclaimed Indian filmmaker presents at UBC

November 2, 2012

Buddhadeb Dasgupta gives free public talk on November 6

Who:  Buddhadeb Dasgupta, internationally-renowned contemporary filmmaker and poet
When: 4 to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6
Where:  Room EME 1203, Engineering, Management and Education building, UBC’s Okanagan campus, 1137 Alumni Ave., Kelowna

Buddhadeb Dasgupta, whom many critics consider to be India’s foremost filmmaker, will speak at a free public presentation on November 6 about his work. Using clips of selected films on the topic How I Grow My Image, Dasgupta will engage the audience in dialogue and discussion.

An economics professor by training, Dasgupta’s reputation rests as much on the lyrical poetry of the film as on the socially relevant themes. His films exploit the realms of reality and sail beyond the assumed horizon. He is regarded as one of the master filmmakers in the world cinema. His documentaries have been no less celebrated.

This event is sponsored by UBC Departments of Sociology and History; Community, Culture and Global Studies; and Cultural Studies.
