Alfonso Martinez, facilities service worker.
A warm campus community welcome to Alfonso Martinez, the Okanagan campus’ newest facilities service worker.
Martinez is part of the Facilities Management service team that deals with the building and grounds maintenance on campus. He was hired as an auxiliary worker by Facilities Management in November last year to help with snow removal and worked out so well that he was hired as a permanent employee in January.
Originally an electronics communications engineer from the Philippines, Martinez came to Canada in 2005. He has been in the Okanagan since April 2012, working in a variety of capacities.
When he’s not at UBC helping campus community members, he can quite often be found spending his extra time working for non-profit groups such as the Okanagan YMCA and Camp Hatikvah in Oyama.
