Graduating visual arts students at UBC’s Okanagan campus are showcasing their fourth-year artwork with a free public gala on Saturday, April 20. The year-end Bachelor of Fine Arts show is one of the region’s premier annual art events.

From painting to performance, a variety of media will be displayed in a vibrant atmosphere together with live music by Joshua Smith, Urbanbirds, and Devon Coyote.

Fourth-year Communications and Design student Kirk Chavarie says the show, titled Continuum, is a not-to-be missed event for anybody who loves local art and live music.

“From traditional to contemporary artwork, this show has it all,” Chavarie says. “Guests at the opening night of Continuum should make sure to dust off their thinking caps and dancing shoes for an unforgettable night out at UBC’s Okanagan campus.”

The BFA art show is like a rite of passage for graduating student artists, who will be on hand at the gala on Saturday, April 20, from 7 to 10 p.m. It’s their chance to show off their research, thesis work, talk about their inspirations and techniques, and display the art they’ve created for final term.

UBC’s Okanagan campus Graduation Exhibition has a history of presenting work from artists who go on to national and international acclaim. Along with the opening night event, this year’s BFA grad exhibit will be open to the public throughout the week of April 17 to 24. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The 2013 show takes place in the Creative and Critical Studies Building (formerly the Fine Arts/Health Building), located on the west side of UBC’s Okanagan campus between Research Road and Discovery Avenue. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served at the opening night event.
