Workshops at a glance: June 19, 2013

Here are some professional development workshops for faculty and staff at UBC’s Okanagan campus over the next few weeks:

Staff eRecruit Support

Human Resources has been holding training workshops to support the Staff eRecruit launchearlier this month.

Human Resources is now providing post-implementation open lab support once a week throughout the summer months every Tuesday until August 27. These will be drop-in open sessions available for anyone to attend and ask questions and get hands-on help.

Date: every Tuesday until Aug. 27
Time: 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Location: Fipke Centre building, room FIP129

Go Live support is also available by phone at any time with Susan Fukushima (250-807-8612, Alana Jordan (250-807-9819) or Gurjit Chand (250-807-8833).

Word 2010: advanced features

This course will introduce participants to the more advanced features and capabilities of Microsoft Word.

The session will look at producing professional documents with tables of content, graphics, and tables. It is designed for employees who are already experienced in Word.

Dates: July 16 and 18
Time: 1 to 4 p.m.
Location: Fipke Centre, room FIP133
Cost: $200
Deadline to register: Tuesday, July 9

Communication skills for collaboration

Participants in this introductory course will consider and explore how personal and others’ styles of negotiating can influence disputes and their outcomes. The session will look at attitudes, skills and practical ways through conflict.

The emphasis is on exploring and practicing ways of talking and listening that help resolve conflict and build relationships.

Date: Thursday, July 25
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon
Location: Fipke Centre building, room FIP124
Cost: $50

Excel 2010: advanced features

This course will introduce participants to the more advanced features and capabilities of Microsoft Excel.

It will look at manipulating data and working with formatting and display techniques, as well as sorting and querying data, and a variety of other functions. This session is suitable for employees who have some Excel experience.

Dates: August 6 and 8 (3 hours each day)
Time: 9 a.m. to 12 noon
Location: Fipke Centre, room FIP133
Cost: $200
Deadline to register: Tuesday, July 30
