Urbanatomy: An evening of art and urban planning in Rutland

October 29, 2013

Urbanatomy posterWHAT: Urbanatomy, a Pecha Kucha presentation
WHEN: Monday, November 4, 7 to 9 p.m.
WHERE: Rutland Centennial Hall, 180 Rutland Road N, Kelowna
ADMISSION: Free

The public is invited to attend Urbanatomy, a Pecha Kucha presentation, to be held on Monday, November 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rutland Centennial Hall, 180 Rutland Road N, Kelowna.

Creative Studies students at UBC’s Okanagan campus teamed up with an Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences history class studying urban planning, to explore how urban places are created and experienced. While the history class presents elements of urban design, creative writing and visual arts students from the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies will unveil a series of project proposals that provide a quirky, creative vision of Rutland. The proposals are part of a new initiative to create Dig Your Neighbourhood: Rutland, a package of art for newcomers to the neighbourhood to be delivered by the Welcome Wagon Ltd.

Pecha Kucha nights are fun events where teams deliver ideas, images, plans and thoughts using  20 slides for 20 seconds each.

Everyone is welcome, admission is free, and light refreshments will be provided. Residents are invited to give feedback to the students about their proposals and enjoy a lively night out.

The event is sponsored by the Rutland Park Society, Eco Art Incubator, Department of Creative Studies and the Urban Studies program at UBC.
