The Okanagan Sustainability Office thanks everyone who participated in the Power of You Lights Out Challenge on October 16. Power of You volunteers completed a visual tally of all offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, and laboratories that directly and indirectly participated in the one-hour challenge.
Based on the number of audited spaces, the campus participation rate was an impressive 48.9 per cent.
The participation winner was Reichwald Health Sciences Centre with 75.4 per cent. Second place was the Creative and Critical Studies building with 65.7 per cent participation.
The conservation winner was the Science building, reporting a 28.4 per cent decrease in energy consumption. Second place was the Reichwald Health Sciences Centre with a 17.5 per cent decrease in energy consumption.

ARTS | 28.1 per cent | -306.43 kWh | -16.4 per cent |
ASII | 48.5 per cent | +12.29 kWh | 0.7 per cent |
CCS | 65.7 per cent | -81.79 kWh | -8.4 per cent |
EME | 57.3 per cent | -374.44 kWh | -6.9 per cent |
FIP | 37.2 per cent | -162.85 kWh | -7.7 per cent |
LIB | 50 per cent | -114.06 kWh | -7.2 per cent |

UNC | 28.6 per cent | +142.08 kWh | 5.7 per cent |
The Okanagan Campus as a whole conserved 2,322.63 kWh during the one hour challenge. This is enough energy saved to power 2.33 residential refrigerators for one year.
If the campus conserved this amount every noon hour for an entire year this would equal $44,083.52 in savings per year.
