Urban Aboriginal health topic of Alterknowledge discussion

November 20, 2013

The AlterKnowledge Discussion Series, organized by Assistant Professor Allison Hargreaves and Associate Professor David Jefferess of UBC’s Department of Critical Studies, is a series of free, expert-led talks designed as lively and participatory conversations where people learn, share, and produce meaningful dialogue.

The next AlterKnowledge Discussion is on the topic of Urban Aboriginal Health and takes place Friday, November 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art, 421 Cawston Ave., Kelowna.

With insights from Sheila Lewis from the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society and UBC PhD student Carlene Dingwall of the Pacific AIDS Network, this discussion will explore the challenges and possibilities of promoting physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health in the urban environment, and the concept and practice of reconciliation in relation to urban Aboriginal health in the Okanagan and beyond.

The event is free and open to everyone.
