Twelve weeks, two major projects

June 2, 2014

Scott McIntyre and Harish Anand

Scott McIntyre and Harish Anand will spend the next few months studying campus energy demands.

Engineering students join Facilities Management for a twelve week placement

Facilities Management is welcoming two undergraduate engineering students to their department for the next three months.

These students will be conducting surveys that will help the department better understand the energy and electricity demands of the Okanagan campus.

Third-year engineering student Scott McIntyre is from Vernon, BC. He’ll be working with Facilities Management to conduct a Campus District Energy System Plant Operational Study and develop a profile of building energy demand and supply.

He’ll do this by compiling historical data on energy consumption from trending data, existing record drawings and maintenance manuals. The energy profile will be reviewed in different modes of operation to determine the most efficient way to run the energy system plant.

From all this McIntyre will develop a model of the campus’ energy costs over one year and make recommendations on how to improve efficiencies.

Third-year engineering student Harish Anand is from Summerland, BC. Anand will be conducting a Campus Buildings Electrical Demand Study.

This project will be result in a model of the electrical demand over one year and help inform the causes of demand charges and provide suggestions on how to respond to this demand.
