Sonja Gaudet, one of Canada’s most decorated Paralympians, will lead a UBC event that will stress the importance of staying active while living with a spinal cord injury (SCI).
Wheelchair curler Gaudet, who sustained a SCI after falling off a horse, has won three Olympic gold medals. She will be one of four speakers at the Sport, Exercise and Well-being after a Spinal Cord Injury event organized by UBC Okanagan’s School of Health and Exercise Sciences and Spinal Cord Injury BC.
Joining Gaudet is Chris McBride, executive director for Spinal Cord Injury BC, Vicky Tolfrey, professor in applied disability sport at England’s Loughborough University and UBC’s Kathleen Martin Ginis, professor of health and exercise sciences.
Scientific and practical information about physical activity, health and well-being for people with a spinal cord injury will be shared and discussed. Following the formal presentation, there will be time for audience questions and informal conversations regarding the latest ideas in science and technology and how those ideas are being put into practice in the community.
The session will be moderated by Prof. Paul van Donkelaar, director of UBC Okanagan’s School of Health and Exercise Sciences. The public is invited to this free event, but pre-registration is required. To register or find out more, visit: sport-excercise-and-well-being.eventbrite.ca
