This year’s Destination UBC, held from May 11 to 14, was an incredible success.
The weekend-long event welcomed 640 newly admitted students and 160 parents to UBC Okanagan to explore the campus, make friends, learn more about the academic programs and resources available, and just generally showing them that UBC is the place they want to attend university this fall.
The Student Recruitment and Advising team would like to thank all members of the campus community who helped make the event special for everyone who attended the weekend. This one-of-a-kind post-secondary experience is possible because the university provides a travel subsidy for students from outside the Okanagan area to fly, bus, or drive to campus and learn what the full UBC experience is.
While the Saturday programming is the heart of the event, Destination UBC actually spans from Thursday to Sunday, including a full-day Aboriginal Student Welcome on the Thursday.
UBC wants everyone who attended the weekend to choose the UBC in the Okanagan as their university. And based on the response on social media (#destinationubc), many who attended Destination UBC are leaning in that direction.
The amount of support offered by the UBC community in Kelowna is heartwarming — and required — to pull off an event of this magnitude.
Thanks again from the Student Recruitment and Advising team.
