The campus community is reminded that climbing the deer sculptures in the central courtyard is not permitted, as it poses a safety concern and in recent months has caused damage to the bronze sculptures.
“Pair of Deer” was created by David Sidley, a sculptor from Rossland, BC, in memory of his son River Sidley, an undergraduate student who died suddenly in 2014 and received a posthumous Bachelor of Science degree in 2015.
UBC Okanagan’s Public Art Collection is a tremendous asset to our university, and is shared by all who visit, live, study and work here. Susan Belton, curator of the collection, encourages the community to appreciate and respect the art in our outdoor spaces and indoor locations across campus. Visit the Public Art Collection website for more information and to view an online gallery.
