Introducing UBC 101 – online orientation for new students

August 30, 2018

UBC 101 graphicOver the past six months, the Office of the Associate Vice-President Students has embarked on a project team approach to streamlining and improving the orientation and transition experience for UBC Okanagan undergraduate students. The result is UBC 101 – online orientation, which is a non-credit course offered through Canvas to provide incoming students with the knowledge and resources to support a successful transition to UBC Okanagan.

UBC 101 – online orientation does not replace any existing orientation programming, but rather condenses many individual messages into a centralized, streamlined and student-friendly format.

The non-credit course is open and accessible to all members of the campus community, with a goal of creating a shared understanding of what new students should know and be able to do prior to the start of classes, and to facilitate future collaborations.

To access the non-credit course, simply visit Canvas, login with your Campus Wide Login (CWL), click ‘enrol in course’ and it will appear in your Canvas dashboard.

Thank you to Enrolment Services for their support and contributions to this project. The Office of the Associate Vice-President Students looks forward to exploring ways to engage with Faculties and other valued campus partners in growing UBC 101 – online orientation, and providing all new-to-UBC Okanagan students with an exceptional orientation experience.

Please help reinforce this messaging by directing all incoming students to login to Canvas (using their CWL) and encouraging them to complete UBC 101 – online orientation.

Questions or feedback can be directed to Jessica Mueller, AVPS manager of strategic initiatives, at jessica.mueller@ubc.ca or 205 807 8596.
