Student Learning Hub provides new one-stop-shop for UBCO learning services

August 20, 2019

Starting in mid-September, undergraduate learning supports and resources at UBC Okanagan will be united into a single entity: the Student Learning Hub. A collaboration between the library and AVP Students, the Hub will better support students and reduce barriers to access by offering a single location for on-campus learning services, including:

  • Math and science tutoring
  • Writing and language learning supports
  • Study skills support
  • Course-specific supplemental learning
  • Academic integrity matters
  • Learning events and workshops

The combined services will be available in a newly renovated space in LIB 237 on the second floor of the library building, in the former Writing and Research Centre.

In addition to the added convenience for students, the changes are also expected to help spread the word about available services and increase student participation.

“One particularly exciting thing about this collaboration is that the co-location of services will raise awareness of what we do and encourage cross-referrals,” says Amanda Brobbel, manager of writing and language learning supports.

Breanne Molnar, manager of learning resources, agrees. “This unification will remove some of the barriers students are finding when trying to access our currently dispersed services. Ultimately, this change will go a long way to enhance the student learning experience and inspire success.”

Stay tuned for more information about The Hub, including an official opening date.
