Second annual alumni and student celebration set for Sept. 27 and 28

Students, alumni and the wider community will have plenty to do when Homecoming – a growing tradition at UBC Okanagan – rolls out a big welcome Sept. 27 and 28.

“We are looking forward to welcoming UBC alumni back to campus for our second annual Homecoming,” says Adrienne Nolan, executive director of Development and Alumni Engagement. “It’s a wonderful time for both alumni and students at UBC Okanagan, and for the wider community to visit and enjoy the experience. Our campus is still young and each year we are establishing traditions that build a long-lasting sense of community and connection with the university.”

In addition to a big open-air kickoff breakfast for students and alumni on Friday, Sept. 27, Homecoming activities on Saturday, Sept. 28, feature:

  • Discover U – UBCO Heat soccer matches (women’s at 1 p.m. and men’s at 3 p.m.) – free for everyone, at Nonis Field on campus and a Discovery Expo presented by UBC Okanagan Faculties.
  • Scavenger Hunt at 5 p.m. ($20 to register a team of four)
  • Saturday Night Street Fest (5 to 9 p.m.) with food, drinks, carnival games and prizes.
  • Supper with Steve – $65 for reception, dinner and comedy special, 5:30 p.m. in The Commons

Supper with Steve

Fun, friendships and great food are the hallmarks of Homecoming. All three come together when Steve Patterson, award-winning host of CBC Radio’s comedy program The Debaters, entertains at an evening dinner in the new Commons building on campus.

Patterson was named Best Male Stand-up Comedian at the Canadian Comedy Awards in 2011 and again in 2013. He has toured his one-man show This is Not Debatable in theatres nationwide and in 2016 released his first book, The Book of Letters I Didn’t Know Where to Send. Tickets to enjoy Supper with Steve are $65, and include a pre-reception, long-table style dinner, special performance by Patterson, and dessert reception.

Alumni and friends golf at Okanagan Golf Club

The third-annual UBC Okanagan Heat and Heat Alumni Golf Tournament hits the links at the Okanagan Golf Club on Sept. 28, the Heat golf program’s home course and site of the very first Canada West golf championship this fall.
