University competitors face off at annual Three Minute Thesis event

What: Three Minute Thesis final
Who: UBCO graduate students, faculty, researchers, staff and members of the public
When: Tuesday, March 30, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Where: Hosted on Zoom

The community is invited to attend the eighth annual UBC Okanagan Three Minute Thesis (3MT) final. The popular competition returns March 30 in an all-new live virtual format.

Graduate students will take centre stage—competing for their share of $6,000 in prize money. Their challenge? To captivate the audience and impress the panel of judges while explaining their master’s or doctoral research in just three minutes.

Dr. Katrina Plamondon, assistant professor with the School of Nursing, will begin this year’s event discussing her goal to use research to move all of society toward collective futures that are more connected and equitable.

While audience members will get caught up in the competition and learn about the graduate research happening in the Okanagan, they will also be invited to vote for the winner of the people’s choice award.

Developed by The University of Queensland in 2008, 3MT competitions are now held in more than 900 universities across 80 countries worldwide.

For the past two years, this event was sold out. Returning in an all-new live virtual format, it is open to a larger audience. Secure a spot today at: gradstudies.ok.ubc.ca/ubco-3mt-final-2021
