Destination UBC 2022: Prioritizing UBC’s Inclusion Action Plan

May 17, 2022

Every year, Student Recruitment and Advising (SRA) hosts Destination UBC—an event that allows admitted students to experience the UBC community first-hand.

This year’s Destination UBC events were completely redesigned by SRA in order to prioritize upholding UBC’s Inclusion Action Plan across both UBC campuses. SRA created a dynamic series of events that fostered new friendships, as well as established meaningful family and community connections with UBC.

2022’s Destination UBC events featured both online and in-person components. Online programming included various welcome events, student panels, community-focused events and Discord interactions.

In-person events were hosted over six weekends (three at the Vancouver campus and three at the Okanagan campus) and were intentionally kept small to foster stronger social and UBC connections. Newly admitted Indigenous, Black, or out of province students and a chaperone were flown to UBC to explore the campuses, make friends, learn about academic options and resources and determine whether UBC was the right fit for them.

SRA is proud to have successfully redesigned the Destination UBC events to support the Inclusion Action Plan by creating this tailored programming specifically for students who face more barriers to accessing post-secondary education.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all members of the campus community who helped make the event special for the attendees, including:

  • Indigenous Programs and Services
  • Student Housing and Residence Life
  • UBC Food Services
  • Academic and Career Development
  • UBC Bookstore
  • Student Experience Office and the Student Connect team
  • Student Coordinators, Peer Leaders and Student Ambassadors
  • Students’ Union Okanagan of UBC
  • Athletics and Recreation
  • Student Learning Hub
  • Admissions and Awards
  • Facilities Management
  • Campus Security
  • UBC Faculties

SRA couldn’t make Destination UBC a success without the support of our entire campus community, and it hopes that you will share in the celebration and success of the Destination UBC 2022 events.
