Dear colleagues,
September 30 is Orange Shirt Day, a day intended to raise awareness of residential schools in Canada and remind us all that Every Child Matters. The significance of the colour orange comes from the experience of Phyllis Jack Webstad, a Northern Secwpemc (Shuswap) woman from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation (Canoe Creek Indian Band) who vividly remembers being stripped of her new orange shirt, along with all her other clothing, when she started school at the St. Joseph Mission Residential School.
