Dear colleagues,
We are experiencing smoke-filled skies as wildfires burn in the Interior and across the border in Alberta, contributing to reduced air quality in the region. Today, the Central Okanagan Air Quality Health Index is at level 9 (High Risk).
All air coming into Okanagan campus buildings through air intakes is filtered. To ensure that the air-handling systems can work efficiently, please keep all windows and doors to the outside closed.
When the air quality health index rises to higher levels, staff and faculty with chronic underlying medical conditions are advised to postpone strenuous activities in outdoor spaces. Exposure to poor air quality is of concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart conditions.
