Gwen Zilm, Associate Vice President Learning Services
Gwen Zilm, Associate Vice President Learning Services at UBC Okanagan, has received the Canadian Library Association’s highest honour, the Miles Blackwell Outstanding Academic Librarian Award. The award was presented to Zilm at the national library conference in Montreal last week.
The award recognizes Zilm for outstanding national and international contribution to academic librarianship and library development.
“I am honoured to have received the 2009 Miles Blackwell Award for Outstanding Academic Librarian Award,” said Zilm. “I want to thank my respected colleagues for the time and effort they put into this nomination and I also want to thank UBC Okanagan for making my work possible.”
The award citation referred to Zilm as “an outstanding leader, a mentor, a visionary, a planner, an advocate and a loyal association member. She cares to know and understand her profession, institution and community which she defines extremely broadly. She is results-oriented, works hard and knows how to have fun.”
Appointed as Associate Vice President at UBC Okanagan in 2005, Zilm provides leadership to the Library, Information Technology, Media and Classroom Services, the Centre for Teaching and Learning, and Continuing Studies. She held senior administrative positions at Okanagan College and Okanagan University College.
