Art on the Line, the sixth-annual UBC Okanagan visual arts fund-raising gala on Jan. 26, has proven very popular – only a few tickets are left. That’s good news for visual arts students, who will apply the proceeds to their year-end Bachelor of Fine Arts Graduating Exhibition and a trip to Mexico in February, where students will experience that country’s abundance of arts and culture.
“Tickets started flying as soon as we had them printed,” says Katie Potapoff, a member of the Visual Arts Course Union that organizes the event each year in conjunction with the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies. “People are scrambling to find tickets now. We only had 110 tickets, and they’re pretty much all sold – the support we’ve seen has been incredible.”
Each $150 ticket admits up to two people and entitles the ticket holder to take home one original, juried art piece, and enjoy appetizers and live entertainment – this year, acoustic singer and songwriter Ari Nufeld will perform throughout the evening. For those who would like to attend the event without a ticket, there will be a $5 charge at the door (starting at 6 p.m.).
The gala on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Kelowna Curling Club (551 Recreation Ave.), will offer painting, screenprints, photography, sculpture, drawings and more. Doors open for art viewing at 6 p.m. and the draw starts at 7:30 p.m.
“If you have a ticket, we recommend you get there early so you know which piece of art you want when your number is drawn,” Potapoff suggests. “There really is something for everyone — and for everyone’s tastes — that will fit your personal style for the office or home.”
