Students looking to dispose of their compostable materials now have more options with the addition of a new collegia composting program.
Junior and senior collegia spaces are now equipped with composting bins where students can dispose of their compostable materials like apple cores, peels and napkins. The new composting containers help the campus community return nutrients to the soil where other food can be grown.
The program is being organized by fourth-year student Michelle Yule as part of a directed studies project for Mary Stockdale, Adjunct Professor of Human Geography, and will include an educational campaign on the importance of composting to the campus community
Composting inthe Collegia will complement existing on-campus composting programs, such as the kitchen facilities bins, and provide a resource that has more value at UBC than in a landfill.
