Upgrades to Central Receiving and Mail Services

January 12, 2011

As part of the UBC Vancouver and Okanagan alignment, Central Receiving and Mail Services systems on the Okanagan campus have been upgraded. A 66-month lease with Pitney Bowes has been signed. The program encompasses two operating systems which have been installed in November 2010.

In Central Receiving, an automated receiving tool with tracking capabilities uses barcode generation, scanning handheld data collection, and signature capture technologies. It will save in labour and processing time, while eliminating paper-based processes.  It will also capture secondary signatures and minimize financial impact for lost or stolen packages. In Mail Services, an automated mail processing machine will enable the campus to apply postage and process outgoing pieces of mail for the campus community.

For the past few years, Okanagan campus faculty and staff have been encouraged to add their three-digit numeric mail code to all outgoing packages for tracking purposes. Please ensure you use your mail code on all envelopes and packages. If you are unsure of your departmental or faculty mail code, please contact your administrative assistant or unit secretary. If you still need assistance, contact Central Receiving and Mail Services or call 250-807-9105.
