International students celebrated with unique awards

Congratulations to the winners of three unique student awards at UBC’s Okanagan campus: the International Leader of Tomorrow (ILOT), the International Student Humanitarian Award (ISHA), and the International Community Achievement Awards (ICAA).

The award recipients were recognized at the annual International Student Awards Dinner in early September and represent the significant achievements by Okanagan campus students.

Nominated by their secondary schools, the ILOT and ISHA award winners demonstrated superior academic success as well as leadership and extracurricular involvement in the arts, sports, or academic pursuits. The ICAA winners are a unique and outstanding group of global citizens that have made a lasting impact on campus. These students have demonstrated strong leadership in everything from serving the community and promoting diversity to becoming leaders in international engagement and service.

The ILOT and ISHA selection committee consisted of Carlos Teixeira, associate professor of Geography, Teresa Flanagan, manager of International Programs and Services, and Susan Allan, manager of the International Student Initiative.

ICAA awards are determined in May each year by a selection committee. This year’s committee consisted of Jessica Stites-Mor, assistant professor of history, John Burton, assistant professor of management, Cigdem Eskicioglu, assistant professor of engineering, Denise Chan, international student advisor, and Teresa Flanagan.
