A farmers’ market is coming to UBC’s Okanagan campus on Friday Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the foyer of the Engineering Management Education building. With 19 confirmed vendors selling such things as organic foods and veggies, healthy breads, gluten-free products, and organic soap, the market offers the opportunity for students, staff and faculty to purchase healthy, locally grown products.
The pilot project is in response to student feedback and focuses on nutrition. There will be a cooking demonstrations and a dietician on hand to offer advice and answer questions.
Partners in the project include fourth-year students from the School of Nursing, students from Health and Exercise Sciences, and the Health and Wellness Centre. With a goal of creating a sustainable weekly market, those attending will be surveyed for their views about the need for a regular campus farmers’ market.
For more information on the market, or to become a vendor, contact nursing student Susan Willerth, swillerth@shaw.ca or call 250-862-7028.
