Congratulations to Ali Ahmadi and Yeyuan (Roger) Xiao, the first PhD graduates from the School of Engineering at UBC’s Okanagan campus.
Ahmadi and Xiao received their doctorates at the first afternoon convocation ceremony on June 7.
Ahmadi was supervised by engineering professors Jonathan Holzman, Nina Hoorfar and Homayoun Najjaran for his PhD, which focused on developing a new generation of biomedical devices which are based on transporting and manipulating small droplets. This research has significant implications for cancer treatments and other serious illnesses.
Xiao was supervised by engineering professor Deborah Roberts. His PhD research focused on examining degradations of perchlorate, a drinking water contaminant widely found in North America, Europe, China and Japan. He also helped develop a process to help build sustainable technologies that remove perchlorate from drinking water.
