Kamilla Bahbahani has been appointed equity manager for the Okanagan campus.
Bahbahani, a PhD in Urban Services/Education from Old Dominion University, now assumes primary responsibility for managing the Okanagan campus Equity Office and for advancing its strategies and goals.
This new position gives the Equity Office more autonomy and will enhance its on-campus presence.
Bahbahani will continue to perform the responsibilities of her former role as Equity Advisor — working with students, staff and faculty to help resolve discrimination and harassment complaints as well as provide training and education on human rights and diversity issues.
Bahbahani has a long-standing interest in human rights and diversity issues which she developed through her travels, research and volunteer experience. She has designed and delivered interactive training on education, relationship and communication issues in North America and Russia. Bahbahani has also worked with indigenous peoples of North America and Asia and conducted research with the indigenous peoples of Kyrgyzstan and Buryatia. She has also been involved in research on issues of diversity and welcoming communities in the Kelowna area, and helped develop a protocol for dealing with critical incidents of discrimination.
In her training and human rights work, Bahbahani draws on her PhD which focused on curriculum design, teacher education, multiculturalism and culture. She brings a strong professional background to the position and an equally strong commitment to advancing the goals of equity and human rights at UBC’s Okanagan campus.
