Rule out Racism weeks starts Saturday, March16 at UBC’s Okanagan campus. Rule out Racism is an annual event that promotes a thoughtful campus community, highlights and celebrates diversity, acknowledges place, and examines privilege while also encouraging an open, respectful discourse on, and engagement with, issues of race and racism.
“UBC is committed to addressing issues of intercultural understanding, relationships with Aboriginal communities, our role in the global community, and a broad range of equity and diversity concerns within and beyond this campus,” says Kamilla Bahbahani, Equity Advisor at UBC’s Okanagan campus. “These activities provide a chance for open dialogue about areas for growth and allow us to make changes towards our vision and an opportunity to reflect on who we are as individuals and as an institution in creating inclusive, welcoming communities.”
Highlights of the week include a dance on Saturday night, a panel discussion Wednesday, craft activities, a festive kebab-eque, a documentary, and a smudge that takes place at the Aboriginal collegium.
