Travel bursaries available for Creating Connections conference in May

UBC’s Vancouver campus is hosting a conference focused on the participation of women in science, engineering, and technology fields in May. Interested members of the Okanagan campus community are eligible for travel bursaries to attend the conference.

The Creating Connections: Working Together to Transform Our World conference will bring over 250 people together on May 10 and 11 for personal and professional development, networking, and inspiration.

The conference will include sessions on entrepreneurship, life-work balance, job searching, mentorship and networking.

Highlights of the conference include a total of four keynotes:

  • The Role of Gender in Science Communication: panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Jennifer Gardy from the BC Centre for Disease Control and recurring guest host for Discovery Channel’s Daily Planet. The panel will feature Bob McDonald, host of CBC Radio One’s Quirks and Quarks, Carin Bondar, freelance science communicator and blogger for Scientific American, and Cam Cronin from the HR MacMillan Space Centre.
  • Dr. Roberta Bondar, the world’s first neurologist in space and Canada’s first female astronaut.
  • Anna Tudela, Vice-President of Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Secretary, Goldcorp Inc.
  • Amiee Chan, CEO, President and Director of Norsat International Inc.
