The Coat of Arms has been an integral part of the university since its 1915 inception by UBC’s first president Frank Wesbrook.
In collaboration with the Ceremonies and Events office, Communications & Marketing has been working to restore the Coat of Arms to its original splendor and elegance for 2013 graduation events.
While the elements and the meaning of the Coat of Arms have not changed, the design has been refined to ensure a consistent, quality rendering for a variety of formats. These refinements have focused on accurate historical relevance and appropriate period vernaculars, including the use of letterforms appropriate to the period.
