Workshops at a glance: July 17, 2013

July 17, 2013

Here are some professional development workshops for faculty and staff at UBC’s Okanagan campus over the next few weeks.

Four day course (re)design being offered in early August

Faculty are invited to participate in this course (re)design process to refresh a course they currently teach or create a new course with a design process facilitated by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL).

The seminar requires a four-day commitment from participants. They will work on a different course aspect each day — from content to learning outcomes, instructional strategies and assessment processes.

Individual faculty members or course teams may be interested in this opportunity to design a new course or revitalize an existing one.

Dates: Tuesday, Aug. 6 to Friday, Aug. 9
Time: all-day
Location: Science building, room SCI331

To register for this seminar visit the UBCevents calendar listing. To find out more, contactHeather Hurren, manager of academic development, at 250-807-9288.

Instructional skills workshop

This instructional skills workshop is offered within a small group setting — limited to six participants — and is designed to enhance the teaching effectiveness of both new and experienced educators.

During the four-day workshop, participants design and conduct three mini-lessons and receive verbal, written and video feedback from the other participants.

Using an intensive experiential learning approach, participants are provided with information on theory and practice of teaching adult learners, useful learning objectives with accompanying lesson plans, techniques for learner participation, and suggestions for learning evaluations.

Dates: Tuesday, Aug. 13 to Friday, Aug. 16
Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day
Location: Science building, room SCI331

To register for this seminar visit the UBCevents calendar listing. To find out more, contactHeather Hurren, manager of academic development, at 250-807-9288.
