Workshops at a glance: February 19, 2014

February 19, 2014

Here are some professional development opportunities for faculty and staff at UBC’s Okanagan campus over the next few weeks:

Free and confidential health assessments for faculty and staff

A health assessment is a widely used early-detection screening tool that can help reveal diseases or other health conditions, even if the symptoms are not fully manifested.

On February 26, Bayshore Health Centre will be on campus to help conduct faculty and staff health assessments with help from nursing and human kinetics students. Assessments will take approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

To register for a health assessment, visit the Human Resources website.

To find out more, contact Tracey Hawthorn, work re-integration and accommodation program coordinator, at tracey.hawthorn@ubc.ca or 250-807-8183.

Date: Wednesday, Feb. 26
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Administration building foyer

Unmasking the Media: Everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

A lunch-hour media information panel featuring members of the Okanagan news media and UBC’s own top Okanagan campus newsmakers.

Find out from those in the know what makes for a good news story, feature piece, or broadcast interview. Discover what the media looks for in a story and what makes news. Hear anecdotes and tips from colleagues experienced with reporters, producers, and videographers.

Bring your lunch. Bring your curiosity. Bring your news.

Date: Tuesday, Feb. 25
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: University Centre Ballroom, room UNC200

To find out more about this event contact Paul Marck, manager of media relations, at paul.marck@ubc.ca or 250-807-9278.
