Hundreds of concrete tobogganers set to slide into Kelowna

January 5, 2015

UBC’s School of Engineering hosts Great Northern competition

Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race 2015 logoA student-led Canadian tradition that started in 1975, the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR) is the oldest undergraduate engineering competition in Canada.

GNCTR is hosted by a different university each year. This year—from Jan. 21 to 25, 2015—UBC’s School of Engineering hosts the event, bringing together about 420 engineering students from across Canada to Kelowna.

The competition tests each team’s ability to not only design and construct a winning race toboggan but test their ability to work in a team environment and show their school spirit. Race day on Jan. 24 takes place at Big White Ski Resort.

For info about theme nights, mini competitions, and other GNCTR 2015 details, see http://gnctr2015.com/wp.
