Have you ever tackled a challenge that felt like it needed more help, — say, about 40 extra pairs of hands? One Okanagan business, posed with a big opportunity, is getting that help from UBC Okanagan Faculty of Management students. Third-year students taking MGMT 390 (a mandatory third-year class) have been split into 34 teams to help one local firm—a mystery until competition day—make the most of a new opportunity.
Starting on April 7, student teams will have 48 hours to tackle the challenge, with one team receiving the Argus Cup and a $5,000 prize. Teams will apply all of their class learning, and use skills in a range of management areas. From knowledge of operations management and human resources to marketing, finance, leadership, communications, and project development, everything it takes will be brought from their coursework to the client. As the clock ticks, teams will develop the solutions they will present to expert judges. Only the very best will advance to the finals.
The public and local businesses are welcome to attend the final round of presentations by the three finalist student groups on Thursday, April 9 starting at 3:30 p.m. in EME 0050. A wine and cheese reception follows with the awards ceremony and Argus Cup presentation. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to spela.grasic@ubc.ca by April 7.
