Poets and musicians add to the artistic experience of Forest Call

Imagine a summer evening walk through the woods, listening for the sounds of birds, bees, musicians, dancers, and poets.
Faculty at UBC Okanagan’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies (FCCS) encourage the public to attend Forest Call; a nighttime walk through the forest at the Woodhaven Eco Culture Centre.
“Forest Call is a unique evening of wonder and delight evoked through the experience of coming upon random beauty in wild places,” says FCCS Assoc. Prof. Nancy Holmes. “Enjoy nature and art, inspiring creativity, elegance, and mystery.”
Participants will be led by procession through the evening forest at the Eco Culture Centre. It will be a silent walk and the audience will listen to and observe musicians, dancers, poets, performance artists, and visual artists engaging with and addressing the forest. Featured artists are Stef Be, Sami Al-Khalili, Nygel Metcalfe, Jordan McAlpine, Lindsay Friesen, Sarah Mainland, Charmaine Miron, Tascheleia Marangoni, Adam Meachem, and Tait Lupo.
Forest Call takes place at the Woodhaven Eco Culture Centre, located at 969 Raymer Road beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $40. Please register ahead of time at www.creativealliance.ca/event-registration and pay cash upon arrival Saturday. Gourmet hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Holmes encourages people to car pool to Woodhaven, as parking is limited. And she reminds all participants to wear comfortable walking shoes.
This evening is supported by The Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies and Kelowna’s new Arts Council (formerly Artists for Creative Alliance). This collaborative effort is curated by Lynda Norman and Ecological Artist Lori Mairs.
