In mid-April, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador, killing more 700 people. Thousands more were injured and became homeless. Aftershocks and a second earthquake in May, registering 6.7, added to the country’s struggle to recover.
This Sunday, a group of UBC Okanagan students are hosting a vigil and fundraiser to help the people of Ecuador. The university’s Apapacho Latin American Student Association, International Program Services, Student Union, and Kelowna’s Global Minga are organizing the event.
All proceeds go directly to communities affected through Global Shapers Quito. Online donations can be given here: generosity.com/emergencies-fundraising/ecuador-earthquake-emergency-relief–2
