Smoking gazebo changes

June 13, 2016

Starting next week, campus community members will notice a change to the smoking gazebos outside the Library and Administration (ADM) building.

  • June 25 and 26
Wooden gazebo near ADM building will be removed. The gazebo has reached the end of its lifecycle.
  • July 2 and 3
Steel gazebo near the Library building will be moved to the location outside the ADM building.

The wooden gazebo will no longer be available after June 25. The steel gazebo will be available in its current location (near the Library building) until July 1, and then ready for use in front of the ADM building after July 3.

Alternative locations include:

  • Southwest exit of the ADM building, behind the cafeteria
  • Between the Arts (ART) and Creative and Critical Studies (CCS) buildings
  • North of the University Centre building (UNC)
  • Kalamalka residence gazebo (Between Kalamalka and Nicola)
  • Monashee residence gazebo (between Similkameen and Monashee)

These gazebo changes were recommended by the University Health and Safety Committee. To find out more, visit: riskmanagement.ok.ubc.ca/committee/uhsc

Reminder: For health and fire safety reasons, smoking on university property is only allowed in the designated smoking gazebos. It is the responsibility of all employees to ensure that smokers use these designated spaces and dispose of their waste properly.

In the fall, UBC Okanagan will release a wellness survey to the campus community that includes consultation about campus smoking gazebos. Until the survey is released, you may provide feedback regarding the gazebo changes at: http://goo.gl/forms/QNmLLaqHvCXK5h0x1
