Notice of building closures and emergency power and lab exhaust system outages

July 19, 2016

On Thursday, July 21, project work will result in a one-hour emergency power shutdown in six buildings on campus and a three-hour shutdown of the strobic exhaust system in the Science building.

This work will take place in the early morning and emergency power circuits in the affected buildings will be without power from 5 to 6 a.m.

The Science building strobic exhaust system will also be offline from 4 to 7 a.m.

In accordance with BC Fire Code and WorkSafeBC, occupancy will not be permitted in the following buildings from 3 to 6 a.m. on July 21.

  • Arts
  • Central Heating Plant
  • Creative and Critical Studies
  • Gymnasium
  • Library
  • Science

We ask that all lab experiments — including unattended experiments — in the Science building that require use of the strobic exhaust system follow shut down procedures as explained in the Laboratory Safety Guidebook.

All affected buildings will be reopened as of 6 a.m. The Science building strobic system will be operational as of 7 a.m.
