It’s been a mild fall and early winter for the Okanagan valley, but Facilities Management wants you to know everything is well-in-foot when snow and ice arrive on campus.
Facilities Management’s regular winter duties on campus include sweeping snow from walkways and parking lots as well as depositing ice-melt and sand to prevent slips and falls.
Areas are prioritized according to high traffic areas, terrain (stairs, inclines, etc.), and areas with past history of incidents/accidents.
Slips and falls are a major cause of injury not only on the UBC campus but in all parts of the city. Footwear with a thick rubber or non-slip sole is recommended for all employees.
If you encounter a slippery or dangerous area of campus, contact the Facilities Management office at 250-807-9272 or facilities.ok@ubc.ca. Facilities Management personnel will immediately respond to reports of slippery areas.
