How do we fulfill the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada to provide an education that acknowledges Canada’s colonial history and values Indigenous knowledge?
Kevin Kaiser, a member of the Stellat’en First Nation and a resource teacher and consultant of Aboriginal Education with School District 23, will initiate a discussion on education for reconciliation. Education has a crucial role in fostering a new relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples and understanding reconciliation is the first step as a way of talking to each other and about each other with respect, Kaiser explains.
The AlterKnowledge discussion series is organized by UBC Okanagan professors Allison Hargreaves and David Jefferess. The series aims to foster community-based knowledge-making, bringing people together to discuss, share, and (un)learn, as a practice of decolonization. This event is free and open to the public.
