Art on the Line returns for an evening of music, art and entertainment

What: Art on the Line, gala event
Who: UBC Okanagan’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, Visual Arts Course Union
When: February 25, doors open at 6 p.m., art draw begins at 7:30
Where: Fipke Centre, UBC Okanagan, 3247 University Way, Kelowna

Art on the Line, UBC Okanagan’s gala event and fundraiser, is celebrating its 15th year this February. The gala, which raises money to support student art exhibitions and activities, is a unique auction where participants may choose artwork from local artists, faculty, and students.

Participants purchase a lottery ticket to win a piece of art. As the evening progresses tickets are randomly drawn—those drawn first get to choose first. With 145 works of art available, even the last ticket drawn can choose from several pieces. After the last ticket is pulled, the remaining artwork becomes available for purchase.

This year, there are 115 auction tickets currently available at the early bird price of $175—each ticket admits two people and entitles them to an evening of live entertainment, good food, and one piece of art. Organizers say tickets are going fast and will make an excellent Christmas gift.

Early bird pricing ends on January 9, 2017, when tickets increase to $190. Event entrance tickets, for those who simply want to browse the artwork and bid on remaining pieces, are available for $10 at the door on the day of the event.

Along with supporting UBC Okanagan’s Creative Studies students, this year’s proceeds will also support Kelowna’s Bumbershoot Children’s Theater and the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art.
