Last year, Last year, Campus Operations and Risk Management hosted a Learning Local Landscapes workshop series for the new UBC Okanagan Gardening Club. This year, Campus Operations and Risk Management are pleased to announce that the Gardening Club has sprouted again.

Workshops will run from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month from May to October and are free of charge to all UBC Okanagan students, faculty, and staff.

Gardening Club Kick-off: Nectar Trail Introduction

Did you miss last year’s workshop on nectar trails?

Lunch-and-learn Workshops by Faculty and Community Experts

During the non-planting months, enjoy lunch-and-learn style workshops by faculty members and community experts, and take an educational nature walk through campus. Speakers will be announced for each workshop as they are confirmed.

Location: Science Building Atrium

Fall Planting

Take one last opportunity to exercise your green thumb and do some planting around campus to get ready for the upcoming spring. Details of this workshop to be announced.

Date: October 12
Location: Science Building Atrium

Pre-registration is requested for these workshops, but not required. To register or find out more, contact natalie.ingram@ubc.ca.

If you’d rather build a house than plant a garden, you can still contribute to the Okanagan Campus nectar trail. The Lee Valley Tools Kelowna store is offering students, staff and faculty the opportunity to build bee, butterfly, and birdhouses to help combat habitat loss for these important creatures. The workshops are free of charge, and the finished houses will be donated to UBC Okanagan for installation along the campus nectar trail.

The Lee Valley habitat house workshops take place on April 27 (bee houses), May 25 (butterfly houses), and June 22 (bird houses), from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lee Valley in Kelowna.

Spaces are limited, and pre-registration is required: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/bee-butterfly-birdhouse-workshops-ubco-and-lee-valley-tools-tickets-33316036161
