The Okanagan Campus Nectar Trail has put down roots and the spring planting season has passed, but the Gardening Club is staying as busy as a bee with two lunch-and-learn workshops in July and August:

Gardening with Horticultural Ken

Keynote speaker: Ken Salvail, Ken’s Horticultural Services
Date: Thursday, July 27

Ken Salvail, founder of Ken’s Horticultural Services and host of the weekly radio show The Garden Show, rounded out last year’s Gardening Club season with a seminar on winter gardening. Ken will rejoin the Gardening Club this year to provide some tips for the summer season.

Gardening Now and in the Future

Keynote speaker: Eva Antonijevic, Okanagan Xeriscape Association (OXA)
Date: Wednesday, August 23

Last year’s Introduction to Xeriscaping Workshop introduced the audience to locally sustainable gardening. This August, OXA program director Eva Antonijevic will join the Gardening Club to discuss rain gardens and how to garden in a changing climate.

Both workshops will take place from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the Science Atrium (feel free to bring your lunch) and are open to all UBC Okanagan students, faculty, and staff. For more information or to register, contact Natalie.ingram@ubc.ca.

You can also walk along the Okanagan Campus Nectar Trail at any time. The trail begins at the plant beds outside the Reichwald Health Sciences and continues up Discovery Avenue to the Cassiar residence. And make sure to keep an eye out for any passing pollinators.
