Shelley Ball has been appointed as the new director of the Independent Investigations Office (IIO). Shelley joined the IIO in October 2018 and has been the acting director since February 2019.
Shelley is a practising lawyer with a background in civil litigation and administrative law and regulation. She also has several years of experience with conducting impartial, trauma-informed investigations of sudden death and critical injury, as well as applying alternative dispute resolution and restorative justice practices.

The Independent Investigations Office is committed to ensuring that investigations into sexual violence and discrimination are guided by the principles of procedural fairness, confidentiality, respect and a trauma-informed approach. The office investigates complaints under UBC Policy #131 (Sexual Assault & Other Sexual Misconduct) and Policy #3 (Discrimination).
