A panel discussion on belonging and integration, moderated by UBC Okanagan’s Dr. Shirley Chau, will begin Asian Heritage Month celebrations in Kelowna on May 4. The opening event will observe and honour the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Asian communities in the Okanagan.
This vibrant celebration includes engaging discussions, performances and activities designed to foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.
The panel discussion, called Sharing Experiences of Belonging and Integration in the Okanagan, will feature voices from students at different stages of their education, each sharing personal insights and experiences.
The panellists are:
- Aradhita Arora, UBCO, fourth-year psychology and management
- Rahul Nagulapally, UBCO, fourth-year computer science
- Villie Joe Gorra, Okanagan College, health analytics
- Allen Dior, Okanagan College, computer science
- Alice Tao, Okanagan Mission Secondary
This event is a collaborative effort between UBCO, the OCCA Communities Association and Okanagan College. The OCCA, founded by Chinese Canadians in 2008 and now serving as an umbrella organization for various ethnic communities, is dedicated to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion.
