Four of UBC Okanagan’s deans will give a special series of public lectures at the downtown Kelowna library throughout October and November.
This first-ever Deans’ Lecture Series is presented jointly by UBC Okanagan Community and Continuing Studies and the Okanagan Regional Library.
“It’s a brown-bag lunch event — we provide the coffee or tea, and some engaging conversation,” notes Tia-Maria Hoeller, Program Leader for Community and Continuing Studies. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to have lunch downtown while listening to the latest developments in research and teaching taking place at UBC Okanagan.”
Dr. Joan Bottorff, Dean of Health and Social Development is the first speaker. On Friday, Oct. 12, Bottorff will present In Mixed Company: Women and Prostate Cancer Support Groups.
On Friday, Oct. 19, Dr. Ian Stuart, Dean of UBC Okanagan’s Faculty of Management, will present a talk entitled Can Canadian Manufacturing Survive the Soaring Loonie?
Dr. Marvin Krank, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, will present Adolescence and Substance Abuse on Nov. 16.
On Nov. 23, Dr. Robert Belton, Dean of Creative and Critical Studies will present a talk entitled New Research Directions in Creative Culture.
Each of the Friday lectures takes place from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m. at the Downtown Kelowna Library, 1380 Ellis Street.
